I saw a cartoon that pictured a doctor in an examination room telling his plump patient, "Mr. Smith—you've got to get in shape." The patient responded, "But doctor, I have a shape—round is a shape."

We all know that image is something, but is it everything?

Just as we all have a shape, we also have an image. What's your image?

Most confuse appearance with image. If you consider the word more carefully, it turns out that the old cliché is right—image really is everything.

The reason why is found in your Bible. It tells you about the right image for your life? The Bible says to cloth "yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator" (In Colossians 3:10, it says you NRSV).

That word image literally means profile, likeness or resemblance. Your image should project the likeness of Jesus Christ. Do you reflect His standards and values? Can others immediately see it by your example, your conduct, friendliness, and genuine concern for others? These qualities aren't superficial or just for appearance. They are an expression of the image of His righteous character.

Do you long for a new shape in your life? Then make it your goal to more fully develop a new godly self—because image is everything
